Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Department of Public Works, has initiated a project for the Preliminary Engineering and Design of improvements to the Lakeshore Drive Bridge over the Palatakaha River from Osprey Pointe Boulevard to the South Clermont Connector.

BACKGROUND

The South Clermont Connector is now open, providing access to and from Lakeshore Drive. Coupled with the introduction of the Connector and with the substandard shoulder widths and lack of pedestrian facilities, Lake County has begun to study alternative improvements for this bridge and the roadway leading up to the bridge.

Several alternatives have been developed during this study process to address the needs of the the project study area. These alternatives have considered bridge height, bridge width, construction options and bridge design.

PUBLIC MEETING

Lake County presented the alternatives to the public at the Public Meeting on November 8, 2007, at the Jenkins Auditorium. Graphics and other display material was available beginning at 5:30 p.m. during the Open House portion of the meeting. A brief presentation was given by members of the Study Team beginning at 6:00 p.m. Lake County appreciates all those who attended to review alternatives for the important improvements to this bridge.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Based on comments received during the Public Meeting and on sound engineering judgment, a preferred alternative will be determined which will identify elements of the bridge and roadway improvements which will be more developed during design. The design of this bridge has been funded and the work has been contracted to begin, following the identification of the preferred alternative.

No funding is available yet for right-of-way acquisition or for construction. What does this mean to you?

Lake County looks forward to developing improvements with you that provide benefits to your community.
